U12s - Match Report

Dominant Town

(Rowan Kitton 25/04/2021)

7    Congleton Town FC U12s
1    Vale Juniors

(Match Date: Saturday 24th April 2021)
Congleton Town hosted Vale Juniors with both teams wanting the upper hand in the local derby. Congleton were on the front foot from the start and applied lots of early pressure, creating 2 or 3 good chances without converting. Vale defended quite deep whilst keeping 2 players up front looking for the long ball over the top from the keeper and it paid off with them going 1 up with a well taken goal. Going behind seemed to kick start the Congleton Town team as they pressed and passed the ball more quickly, constantly turning the Vale defence and getting behind to deliver a wave of crosses.

Eventually the constant pressure finally told, and Congleton were level after a well taken goal by the impressive Samuel Brightwell who terrorised the Vale defence throughout the game. Bobby Wright soon put the hosts ahead after latching onto a well delivered cross to turn it into the goal. Tom Jeffries added a third, showing good skills and determination in the box before Wright put Congleton firmly in control with his second of the game, going into half time with a commanding and well-deserved lead.

When Congleton use the full width of the pitch, they can stretch the opposition and take advantage of their speed which they did superbly well in the second half. The Town defence was strong and resolute and snuffed out any threat, allowing the midfield time on the ball to pick the pass and open up the opposition time and again, particularly down the flanks. With three second half goals by Dylan Dale, Izak Williams and Finley Robinson the game finished with a convincing 7-1 home win.
