U10s - Match Report

Congleton Rovers Vs Witton Albion

(Andy Beech 09/03/2020)

Congleton Rovers JFC U10s  Vs  Witton Albion   (Score Withheld)

(Match Date: Saturday 7th March 2020)
In Game week 22 Rovers were at home to a strong Witton Albion team, only a couple of weeks after their last encounter and fully aware how good Witton were. In both games Rovers were certainly up for the battle and started strongly! In game 1, the lads played some of their best football of the season. Rovers scored following a corner from George who floated the ball to the back post for Aidan W to run on to and smash the ball into the net. Rovers’ second came soon after George flying down the right wing and his cross going straight in. Aidan W then played a great through ball to Sam who took a touch and placed the ball past the onrushing goalie for Rovers’ third. With Archie DW protecting the defence really well, Louie defending well and showing great composure on the ball and tireless running from Archie C, Rovers started the second half well, Gabriel who had a great game on the wing drew a foul from a Witton defender with some neat footwork, which gave George the opportunity to fire the resulting free kick straight into Sam, who flicked the ball past the keeper for his second and Rovers’ 4th goal. Rovers didn’t stop there and scored a 5th goal when Aidan W volleyed into the bottom corner off a looping cross. A really good performance from all the lads.

In game 2, Rovers started well creating chances and working really hard. Great defending from Stan, Dan, Leo and Lewis keeping the opposition at arms length and Aidan K and Harley working hard on the wings helping to create numerous chances to score. At times Rovers were soaking up the Witton pressure and hitting them on the break, counterattacking football at its best. Rovers’ first goal came from Harley, a neat shot from the edge of the area into the bottom of the goal. Rhys then got in on the act firing his shot past the keeper and into the bottom corner. Witton then put the Rovers defence under a period of pressure with the Rovers defenders having to put their bodies and faces on the line to to stop the Witton attacks. Dan going face first to block one attack! After a couple of runs through on goal and just firing wide, Dan got one just right, driving past a couple of Witton defenders and firing the ball into the top corner. Rovers then got a fourth when Rhys smashed in a superb volley off a cross leaving the keeper with no chance.

Well played to all the lads.
