Todays game Lads, following todays game I think a few things need to be adddressed, I will discuss this with you on Thursday but there are a number of issues which myself and Paul feel need to be tackled. Personally, if we lose but give a great performance, I'm happy (ish), but to lose how we did today has left me feeling very UN-happy! For 3 years we have worked as a team and we have worked on the basic fundmentals of playing the game as a TEAM sport but today you let yourselves down. Key areas of concern:
Communication: I cannot remember hearing anyone today talking to your team mates
Game instructions: we keep it simple but stopping long range shots, closing players down, not watching the game happen around you are simple things you all now about.
Concentration: both in the game and whilst myself and Paul are talking to you. There were a number of occassions today where we were trying to explain what to do in the game or what was going wrong and number of boys were to busy watching the game on the next pitch!
Desire: You need to turn up wanting to WIN as a team. Today, you just turned up .....
Position: I understand that everyone wants to score, but we had this conversation 2 years ago in the under 9's. If you are asked to play in a different position, you are asked for a reason and therefore I expect you to play to your best ability for your team mates, if you do not want to play in that position, someone else will and they will be selected and you will be sub.....
This is the tip of the iceberg ...... and parents, I apologise if you disagree with anything I am saying but we are capable of so much more than this and today was VERY disappointing.
We still have a number of lads who want to come and play football for the Rovers, I need to know that YOU want to play for the Rovers. From now on, squad selection will be based on the previous match performance, training performance, paying attention etc.
I want this season to be a success ...... not for me and Paul ...... but for YOU.
PLEASE turn up on Thursday and next Saturday with the right attitude! TEAM HOODIES You lads are spoilt ....... thanks to the generosity of Manheim and Justin Arnold, the Astros will have posh new Hoodie to wear with pride for the 2010/2011 season! When they are handed out PLEASE write your name in them! therefore ensuring that the hoodie you are given at the start of the seaosn is the one you own at the end of the season :-)
